The Floral Vistas series combines the ideas of the Landscape Obscura and Floral Abstracts series, focusing on negative/positive composition. The formal qualities of color, shape, line, rhythm and patterns are used in floral silhouette cut-out shapes to create a push and pull of foreground/background interplay. I'm investigating when the viewer perceives the floral silhouette as a window through which there is a vista, a sense of landscape. Or when the floral silhouette appears as a cohesive shape moving to the foreground. My interest is to investigate the evolving combinations of compositional shape, color and patterns and embracing the interplay of these qualities while maintaining a distinct, yet subtle sense of detail. My goal is to create work that evokes beauty, visual poetry and a sense of joy.
